Moon was sleeping in her warm nest. A wonderful dream
was happening. She had a mate, and she was happy! So happy! They
would celebrate every night, dancing in the moonlight. A smile would
always be on her face. Right now, they were both in the warm water,
when a look of horror crossed her dream mate's face. She looked in
the direction he was gaping at, but saw nothing. Her face which once
displayed happiness now had pure confusion. And that was before her
mate disappeared.
"Dark?" She called out, but there was no answer. A strong smell of
smoke was now clogging up Moon's nose like fog, and she had to use
just vision to see everything. But even that wasn't working right
now. Everything was getting dark. And it got darker and darker. And
now she was blind! Frantic, Moon scratched the air, soon waking up.
The dream was so scary she could still smell the smoke! She waited
for it to go. But it didn't. She knew what was coming. She couldn't
bring herself to admit she knew what it was.
Moon poked her head out of her den and gasped, the camp was on
fire! As quick as lightning, she ran to the nursery and grabbed the
pups, hauling them out of it.
The smoke cleared. The fire was gone.
"Fire!" She barked, and he came slinking out, "How far has the fire
gotten." Fire replied, "As far as the rebel camp, Ice told me about it."
Moon had an idea. A crazy idea. Would they agree? Would it work?
Would it make them survive?
"Everyone!" She called out, "Its time to ask the rebels for
help."
