Ice was dirty. But he was also extremely unlucky. He should have stayed clear of the boiling water, but he just had to bathe. He dipped his paw into the water, and quickly took it out. It was fairly burned. Maybe he forgot to go in a special way. Maybe it was just his sour luck. Ice was strange. He had his unlucky days, and he had his extremely unlucky days. he never remembered one day when he had luck. Maybe he was just exaggerating. Maybe not. Well, he would never know the answer to that hard question.
Ice dipped both of his paws in the water, and ignored the pain. Quick as a shadow, Ice jumped into the boiling spring. It wasn't so bad now that he had fully jumped in. In fact, it felt very nice! Ice sighed as he smiled. Then, there was a strange burning sensation on his back. His smile faded as fast as it came, and he jumped out of the spring, trying to keep his mouth from howling like crazy.
Ice ran around on the ground so the burning would fade off, but nothing really happened to the poor Omega. Soon, the burning faded off a bit, but was still there. He sat down firmly on the ground, looking miserable.

--Yeah, I got the Long End of the-- .Stick. ------------------------------------------------- Poison Arrow smiled warmly, happiness spreading through his heart like a hot drink. It was midday, though as usual on this side of the Mountain dark in its huge shadow, and the temperature was chill, though in the warmth of the camp it was more of a comfortable cool. He was standing over a she-whttp://reversexpsychology.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=spring&action=post&thread=42&page=1olf, who also had an enormous smile on her face; two tiny squirming pups, blind and deaf, were suckling on the pretty female. She was not Poison Arrow's mate, but he made a point to be at the birth of every new pup, though he found it strange to think that at that very moment, a Loner or one of the Royals would be giving birth also, those pups the exact opposite of the ones he grinned at now.
The Alpha whispered comfort to the tired newly-mother, then stood up straight again and trotted out of the bush-den she had chosen to birth in. He himself had not found a Mate yet, though he knew Rose Thorn, a Hunter, had a faint interest in him. She had been a little distant lately... He was worried about her, but knew from experience of dealing with the Temperamental She-wolf that it was better not to ask.
He looked around, smiling again, though fainter this time, at the Camp of his pack. The many tunnels that lead into the many clearings, carefully carved out of bushes and rock, so that the end result was an intricate mess of space and dens. There were dead-ends and ditches to confuse invading enemies, and every pup knew from a very young age where were the best places to go, and where to avoid. Finding nothing much else to do, he shook himself and headed towards a large boulder; skirting around the left was a small gap between there and the sharp cliff-face you could squeeze out of, if you were thin enough. He was.
A while later, vaguely intent on his destination, Poison Arrow arrived at the Hot Springs, infact feeling a little surprised to find himself there - it hadn't really been a conscious decision. Spotting a younger wolf leaping with a start out of one of the smaller yet hot leaks, he turned that direction. "Be careful, Ice!" He called as he approached, recognising the Omega instantly. He liked the young wolf... He was just full of lots of dangerous ideas, and not as strong as the fighters. Not originally from the Rebels, he had been a Prisoner at first. Poison Arrow liked all to be equal, though, and tried to make Ice as comfortable as possible.
He knew he was lucky to be so high - his twin in the Royals was the sicker, smaller, weaker, and generally disliked one. But there was no point feeling guilty; just try to make things fairer for the less fortunate. Not that he thought himself higher or anything...------------------------------------------------- -Don't hate me for being- .LUCKY. &*512!~Poison Arrow

Ice heard the warning of Poison Arrow and turned his white head around to see the Alpha, "Hello." He said in his strangely cunning voice. Sadly, Ice wasn't too cunning. It was his twin, Fire, who had the brains. But at least Ice would hunt for actual food, while Fire just poked his head in every bush that looked boring. Whenever the two wolves shared the connection, all that Fire would think about was herbs, it was pretty much torture! Ice slowly stood up to the Alpha and faintly smiled, although his back was hurting like crazy. His jet black paws felt the ground in front of him, and soon he was about five feet from Poison Arrow. Ice's expression turned into a small smile, and he said, "Are the little pups born yet?" Ice had recently heard of some little pups that were on their way out of the mother. It was a good thing too, Ice thought she might collapse whenever she stood up because of the weight of the cute little fur balls.
His white tail faintly swished back and forth on the ground, cleaning it a bit, "Care to sit?" He asked the Alpha, and he lazily blinked. There was pain in his back of course, but he was ignoring it because he was used to those type of things.

--Yeah, I got the Long End of the-- .Stick. ------------------------------------------------- Smiling warmly, though with a hint of reservation behind it, Poison Arrow reached Ice and dipped a paw a little boredly into the Spring the Omega had just leaped out of. Ignoring the question for now he muttered, "Be careful around here. Your skin isn't quite thick enough to deal with the heat of them yet... Your better in a larger pool - they're actually cooler." His voice was a little quieter than normal, as though he were talking to himself, though the advice was aimed at Ice.
The white, black and red wolf before Poison Arrow was infact barely younger than him - only a year. And the Alpha himself was one of the youngest either of the packs had seen; The Royals tended to have older, experienced wolves that fought - and killed - their way to the top. The Rebels' Alphas were voted fairly. Every wolf of any age, beside prisoners and Omegas, was allowed to vote for any of the Fighters to become their leader, Male or Female, and they could be voted out again at any time. He wasn't sure whether it was his own fortune or his twin's misfortune that had granted him the Virtue. Of course you got the odd bad Alpha, common for the Royals and occasionally for the Rebels, and that couldn't be helped - with a wince the dark wolf remembered the stories of the time of Horror. Thank all Stars that was over.
Finally turning his full attention back to Ice, Poison Arrow sighed. "Yes. They have been born. A black and a grey - one seems to have spikes already growing out of its back. It is unusual for pups to get special features so young..." Then his eyes lit up as he sat down. He knew the Omega often felt lowly and put-out, and the older tried to make everyone as comfortable as possible... He was full of ideas to match Rose Thorn in ferocity(she rarely approached him, but he knew of some of her plans, and had more than once come across boredly scribbled drawings of death) and knew that those were dangerous. But there were two options he could have done to deal with it: Ignore and punish; or encourage and goad-out-of. He had chosen the latter. So now the Alpha smiled down to the Omega. "Ice... You never received a proper teaching, did you? You were too old to be set in the lessons by the time you became a, uhh, shall we say, proper member of the pack... Would you like to be taught with these new pups when their time comes? You can even pick for yourself - Hunter or Fighter..."------------------------------------------------- -Don't hate me for being- .LUCKY. &*457!~Poison Arrow

Ice raised his eyebrows and lowered them a few times at Poison Arrow's advice. He should try those large springs soon. Ice glanced back at the area they were in and faintly smiled at the thought of warm, but not boiling, water on his skin. Of course he was a bit offended with the skin part, but for the most part of it, Ice didn't really care too much.
The little wolf pups made the sun shine a little brighter. The world was a bit better. And Ice was much happier. Well, at least the young wolf thought he was. A small awkward silence was there for a small moment before he heard the offer. It was true, he had never been though proper training. To be offered to become a hunter or fighter after training was like being offer control over the world! This time when Ice talked to his twin, he would be the bragger!
"I would be a hunter, I have not the build that a fighter does." Ice admitted, although he didn't really need to.

--Yeah, I got the Long End of the-- .Stick. ------------------------------------------------- Poison Arrow nodded slowly, thoughts and plans flashing before his eyes like a flickering flame, dancing and twisting and forming patterns... Ice could be a good wolf. He could see that. Just... The Alpha had never believed much in redemption. Usually due to fate; that was one horrible thing about this world. A bad wolf with a good twin could not be a good wolf unless his twin went bad. Again, he felt a little pang of... Guilt, was it? as he thought of his own luck on the deal. But... Again, there was no point complaining how good things were. Well... That would be kind of... Pointless.
But one thing Poison Arrow did believe in was respect. Less cheesy than love, more effective than punishment. If a young wolf was resented or abused, they in turn grew resentful and abusive. You had to deal with these things carefully. If Ice was feeling angry, it was because he was feeling lowly, rejected. You wouldn't make him better by making that worse. If you gave Ice respect... Maybe he might give it to you. "Perfect," he said warmly with one of those warm yet slightly reserved smiles, "We'll get you started... Would you mind waiting a few moons? It's easier if we fit you in at the same time as the new pups..." His smile weakened a little. "We're a little short on Teachers at the moment, but we should be free by then."
Poison Arrow looked around, mismatched eyes, purple covered by his long, spiky hair. There appeared to still be no-one else around. Gathered from his(thankfully very short, yet also very) traumatic experience in the Royal's Camp, and all of his Twin's thoughts - or mostly complaints - it was easy to gather there was rarely any peace in the Royal's Territory, especially the Camp. With the Rebels it was a different story. Gossip could go around quickly, yet there was quiet. And it that way, it was good. Yes, he was glad to be in the pack he was. If only his twin could come over too... He felt a faint sense of wistfulness at the thought. The Royal, his twin, had hated him. He had tried not to return the Gesture. But... There was something about the sciences. This had always intrigued the wolf, especially when he was a little younger, though he had learned not to speak about it out loud recently. What was it that controlled these thoughts? What scientific miracle enabled twins to see eachother's minds? What invisible connection kept them caught in the balance, like weights on a scale, tethered to eachother, waiting for one to move so the other could just tilt...
He shook himself. No. No thoughts like that. You are an Alpha, Poison Arrow. You are a wolf of tradition. You cannot have these thoughts when you are so up high... The others would not like it and you can easily get voted out. He was not a power-lover, but certain standards had to be kept...
He glanced up. "Sun's still high in the sky... Good." He couldn't deal with his twin right now.------------------------------------------------- -Don't hate me for being- .LUCKY. &*571!~Poison Arrow
